insight Magento 1.4 (Preview Release) - Widgets

I want to break the HOWTO series for this widget presentation shortly.
silk long time is the Magento Version 1.4.x available. Only recently has it as Release Candidate (The program is almost ready for Publication, but has some bugs) are available.

I was amazed how much has changed but the new version. Many things become clearer.
lifting I would like in this post but the widgets, because they now allow users without knowledge of XML static blocks, new links to static pages or, for example, last seen products on the website to place.
This new feature evaluates Magento on a lot. I even saw this as a major limitation.

The new tool is located under the menu item CMS - Widgets.

If you want to create a new widget, you must decide first on the type and design.
now loads the page and shows one after the other adjustments.

In my example I will add the "Contact Us" page the footer block.

We give the widget a name, determine the store view (in which this widget should apply) and define the sequence within the reference block in which we want to see our block (containing the widget).

What previously only possible with XML through a layout update was, is now simply by selecting boxes:

In "Display on" The distinction is whether the widget (in our case a block - the footer) are displayed on a category or a specific product page to a generic page.

I choose "Page" - "Specific Page" to determine a page.

Now you get a selection for all pages in Magento. Here I choose me from the contact page.
Next, I must choose the block reference. These are the "primary units" of Magento to choose from: header, content area, footer, right and left column.
This can now be repeated as often as required in this widget.

yet the system does not know which block to display it.
To determine just click next to "Widget Options" and "Select Block".

save - that's it.

Now let's look at this in the frontend to:

so easy it can be a block to integrate. would
